Educational Programs, Aviation Discovery & Group Tours

The Commemorative Air Force Missouri Wing offers immersive educational experiences that combine STEM education, aviation history, and hands-on learning.

 

Our educational outreach programs inspire students of all ages by bringing World War II history and aviation technology to life through authentic aircraft, military vehicles, and interactive exhibits.

Whether you’re planning a school field trip, homeschool outing, Scout program, youth group activity, or adult group tour, our experienced volunteers provide an engaging experience that connects history with science, engineering, technology, and aviation.

Group Tours and School Field Trips

Our guided tours are ideal for:

  • Public and private schools

Each guided tour lasts approximately one hour and is led by knowledgeable volunteer docents.

What Is Included in the Tour?

Your experience begins in our museum gallery, featuring exhibits covering World War II history along with rotating displays throughout the year.

Guests then continue into the James O. Holton Jr. WWII Heritage Hangar, where they will explore:

  • Historic World War II aircraft

  • Military ground vehicles

  • Aviation artifacts

  • Restoration projects

The tour also includes a visit to our recreated South Pacific Officers Club, providing insight into how WWII air missions were planned and executed.

Finally, guests enjoy exclusive behind-the-scenes access to our B-25 Maintenance and Restoration Hangar, where they learn what it takes to inspect, restore, and maintain an 80-year-old World War II bomber that still flies today.

Aviation Discovery & Classroom Programming

For schools seeking a deeper educational experience, the Missouri Wing also offers expanded STEM and history lesson programming.

These educational outreach activities typically last approximately two hours and can be customized based on:

  • Grade level

  • Curriculum objectives

  • Student age

  • Group size

  • Educational goals

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should group tours be scheduled?

Please allow at least two weeks’ notice when scheduling any group tour or educational program. Advance reservations help us ensure adequate docent staffing and provide the best possible experience.

When are tours available?

Group tours are typically scheduled during museum hours:

  • 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

  • 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Special tour times may be available with advance approval from the Museum Tour Coordinator.

How many people can participate?

  • Minimum group size:

  • Standard tour groups:

  • Groups larger than 20 are accommodated with additional docents.

  • Groups larger than 60 are divided into smaller tour groups with staggered start times to ensure a quality educational experience.

What does admission cost?

  • Adults:

  • Students and youth groups:

  • Teachers, educators, and chaperones:

Admission is paid upon arrival on the day of your scheduled tour unless other arrangements have been made.

What are the supervision requirements?

School and youth groups must provide one adult chaperone for every 10 students.

For preschool-aged children, the required supervision ratio is one adult for every two children.

Guided educational programs are not available for groups consisting entirely of children five years of age or younger.
